18 Months

I’ve gotten in trouble because I’ve not been doing the monthly updates. We’ve had so much going on recently. But 18 months is a big deal, so I decided I’d definitely do one for Hadley.

So I sat her down in the chair to do the photoshoot. This is what happened.

Someone wasn’t feeling it. I can’t blame her too much though. She’s got one last incisor trying to cut through plus some allergies happening. She’s just not a happy girl recently.

She did make a better subject when she got up and was able to do her own thing

She is so funny. She is talking so much and understands everything. She knows all her animals and the sounds they make. I’m shocked every day at the vocabulary she has as an 18 month old.

She and Cady are usually so sweet to each other. They are each other’s best friend. They do have their moments, but I don’t think there is a pair of sisters who don’t.

She loves to laugh and tell jokes and just be silly. I have a couple of videos of proof

The first, after dinner the other night, we had a little dance party in the car after we stopped to get ice cream. I wish it wasn’t so dark

And then she was cracking me up on Friday walking around in those crazy princess shoes

Happy 15 Months sweet Hadley Elizabeth!

I couldn’t love that precious little face any more. I can easily say that this age is one of my favorites. She learns something new and fun every single day. And I just don’t see how she could get sweeter. She is such a little lovebug.

She is such a good little talker. She has tons of words. Please is a favorite because she knows it gets her things. And really it is almost impossible to resist those big blue eyes when she said “Pweese?” I’m such a sucker.

She is becoming such a little person. She is my little helper. She will drop everything and literally come running if I am emptying the dishwasher. It is the biggest treat for her to get to help me with it. She also loves to help with the laundry like her big sister did.

Hadley is slowly coming out of her shell. We had a few weeks there where things were almost painful because of her shyness and stranger aversion. But she seems to be slowly overcoming it. That is a huge difference between Hadley and Cady. Cady has never had a moment of shyness.

On that same note, I signed Hadley up for the Pre-School Prep program at the same school Cady attends. Starting in September she will attend one day a week. I think it will be very good for her to have an opportunity to socialize without me around. I am nervous about her transition, but I do know it is the best thing for her.

I will be taking both the girls to the pediatrician soon for their 4 year and 15 month appointments, so I should have measurements soon.

We love you, Hadley Elizabeth.

Happy 48 Months Cady Cupcake!

I don’t know what it is about this age that is making me more sentimental than usual, but I am. Four Years Old. That just seems SO BIG. I can’t believe I have a 4 year old. An awesome 4 year old. A smart, hilarious, sweet, loving, adorable 4 year old.

We’ve had a low key birthday day. Daddy is out of town 😦 so it is just us girls. This morning I woke up at Cady’s birth time, 5:15 (it was just coincidence, really). I decorated Cady’s door before she woke up.

She loved it! It was hilarious to watch her groggily run back and forth through the streamers (video on facebook)

I offered to take her to get donuts for breakfast, but she said she would rather just have cereal here. So special birthday cereal it is. Her friend, Rylie, isn’t going to be able to make it for her party, so we met her and her mommy and baby sister for lunch. And she is now taking a special birthday nap (HA!)

I love doing these little interviews because I know I will love looking back on them in the future. So 20 Questions to ask Every Year:

1. What is your favorite color? Purple

2. What is your favorite toy? Strawberry Shortcake (she had just opened a gift of a strawberry Shortcake toy minutes earlier)

3. What is your favorite fruit? Vegetables (alrighty then)

4. What is your favorite tv show? Strawberry Shortcake

5. What is your favorite thing to eat for lunch? Lunchable

6. What is your favorite outfit? The outfit I am wearing right now

7. What is your favorite game? Hide and Seek

8. What is your favorite snack? Vegetables (not sure why she has vegetables on the brain)

9. What is your favorite animal? a bear (makes her Daddy proud)

10. What is your favorite song? ABC’s

11. What is your favorite book? It is about animals

12. Who is your best friend? Charlotte

13. What is your favorite cereal? The cereal I had for breakfast (Cinnamon Toast Crunch)

14. What is your favorite thing to do outside? Swing

15. What is your favorite drink? Orange Juice

16. What is your favorite holiday? My birthday!

17. What is your favorite thing to sleep with? my pink bear (I don’t think she had ever slept with that)

18. What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast? Cereal

19. What is your favorite thing to eat for dinner? Lunchable (I don’t let her eat those things that much. Really)

20. What do you want to be when you grow up? A grown up (don’t we all)

Happy 14 Months Hadley Elizabeth!

I don’t have any official measurements, but I know that she has hit a growth spurt. She is now wearing mostly 24 month/2T clothing. Some 18 month will fit as long as the length isn’t necessary, but 12 month is out for sure. I swear she will be as tall as Cady in a few months. She goes back for a 15 month checkup next month, so we will know then just how much taller she is.

She got her first haircut this month. I don’t have any picture of it because I was holding her while Ms. Rebecca cut it. It was mainly just the mullet issues in the back because I’m not ready to lose those curls.

She has really started testing boundaries this month. She likes to throw a good tantrum when she gets told no. But we are working on it, and I know it is a process. It is much less frustrating the second time around. Someone remind me of this when she is three and making me pull my hair out.

She is super loving. She loves giving kisses and hugs. She is also starting to love to help. She helps me unload the dishwasher and she is starting to help me with laundry. I love this phase. I remember it so well with Cady and it really is just one of the sweetest times there is with toddlers.

Happy 47 Months Cady Cupcake!

She is almost 4. I know I say it every January, but how is she almost 4?!? Such a big girl!

She is just a little ray of sunshine. She loves to laugh. She loves to make other people laugh. She really is a little comedian. I know sometimes (most of the time?) she doesn’t mean to, but she can crack me up more than anyone else.

I just love her sunny little personality and can’t wait to see what year #5 brings.

We love you Cady Cupcake!

Happy 13 Months Hadley Elizabeth!

This month I want to kind of remember what her schedule is like at this age.

Hadley wakes up around 7 am. She has a cup of milk immediately (She is completely on whole milk and drinks only out of sippy cups).

She eats breakfast between 8 and 9. After that, depending on the day, she and Cady play a lot together. I join in when I can, but I also use the mornings to get stuff done around here.

Between 11 and 12, I start lunch. After lunch, we usually try to have more low key time. Read some books and other quiet activities.

Hadley goes down for a nap at 1. She normally naps for about 2 hours. Most of the time she is awake before Cady, so I use that time to sit with her and talk and play and laugh, one on one.

After Cady wakes up, I’m old news and Cady is the one she is interested in. We eat dinner between 5:30-6:30.

By 6:30, she is very ready to start her bedtime routine. She and Cady like to take a bath together and play. After bath, she immediately heads to bed. She is still having a bit of trouble falling asleep on her own. We rock her for a few minutes to have some cuddle time and wind down time. But she still fusses for a little while after we put her in her crib.

She has basically set this schedule for herself and it works really well.

She is changing so much. I forgot how quickly things change at this age.

I think she has a larger vocabulary right now than Cady did at this time. Her current words (and by words, I mean I know what she is saying. I don’t think anyone else would) are Mama, Dada, Hi, Bye, Doggy, Uh-oh and I swear she has a word for Cady. It doesn’t sound anything like Cady, but I swear that is what she means when she says it.

She is a walker. She can stand up on her own and she loves the independence of walking.

I still don’t have her 1 year stats because I’m a slacker and just scheduled her appointment for next week.

We love you, Hadley Elizabeth!

Happy 46 Months Cady Cupcake.

This month, minus a few moments, I’ve felt like the torturous 3’s are over! I may be speaking too soon, but I really do feel like we have turned a corner with Cady behavior. There is much much less back talking, and any that does happen can be pointed out and will change. Definitely less disobeying, and a lot fewer tantrums. She is always a sweet girl, but I don’t have to keep repeating it to myself all day 😉

She is still an absolutely fabulous big sister. I was really curious how things would go after Hadley became more and more mobile and got into her stuff more and more. She has adapted amazingly. She is wonderful about sharing with Hadley and wanting to play with her. She has her moments when she wants to be alone and do her own thing (who doesn’t?), and she will just go in her room and close her door. She really does adore Hadley (probably not as much as Hadley adores her). When they play together and I hear them laughing together, every stressful moment of having 2 kids melts away in an instance.

I don’t know if it is being a big sister or just part of her nature, but she is very caring. She is sort of motherly naturally it seems. Her teachers told me today that she tends to kind of take care of some of the other kids. She has also been asking some kind of serious questions. We’ve discussed why people have different skin colors, and her capacity to understand just amazes me. She is a pretty awesome little kid that sometimes leaves me speechless (in a good way).

She is doing great on the reading and writing front. She can write her name really well and has several other letters down pat. She is starting to sound out at least the first letter of words. If she has a few words in front of her, she can sound it out and pick out the correct word most times. She is well on her way to reading.

She is just such a joy to us. 2011 has been awesome, and I can’t wait for 2012 with my Cupcake.

We love you, Cady Cupcake!

Happy 12 Months Hadley Elizabeth!

I’m a little late on this post. We traveled back to Arkansas on Hadley’s actual birthday, so I wasn’t able to post then. I did get her sweet little picture before we left. So I am back dating this post for my own reference.

Hadley is a bit of a contradiction. She is a shy girl. She is timid and definitely takes her time getting to know anyone. But I don’t know that I consider her introverted. She is emotional and has a definite temper, and she definitely lets people know it. She isn’t as laid back as Cady was at this age.

We discovered, during our trip to Arkansas, that she isn’t the best traveler. I’m not giving up on her yet though. She did much better driving home than she did going to. So I’m holding out hope that she will get better with a little experience.

She started walking this month! She seems to do things a little out of order with everything though. She was crawling (or her version of it) before she would sit up on her own. Now she walks, and she is all over the place, before she is able to stand on her own. I definitely learned to just let her figure it out and not stress about it during the crawling thing, so I know that she will get it soon. So I don’t consider her a full time walker, but any day now.

I don’t have any stats because I haven’t even scheduled her 12 month appointment yet (Meep! Gotta get on that!). We had a wonderful birthday party for her back in Arkansas and I will be writing that post up right after this one and scheduling it for tomorrow.

I really am in awe that this year has gone by so fast. Hadley has just brought so much joy into all three of our lives. I love every day better than the last because of Cady and Hadley and their interactions. I don’t know which adores the other more.

We love you, Hadley Elizabeth!

Happy 11 Months Hadley Elizabeth!

First, to make this a little about me, I am so sad about this. I have taken the time to really savor Hadley’s baby time and it seems like it has gone by just too fast. I’ve been able to not just wait for the next milestone, but really enjoy the phase she is currently in. And it seems like the universe just laughs at me and made this year fly by. I was kind of sappy about Cady turning one, but I think I might actually be sad about Hadley turning one. I have just enjoyed this first year with her so much. The phase that she is at combined with Cady’s age just seems so perfect. I love watching them interact and play together. I am definitely looking forward to the next phases, but I am truly sad to see her baby phase end.

Like Cady, Hadley experienced her first stomach virus this month. A week after Cady, Hadley woke up one morning with the same symptoms. As hard as it was with Cady, it was so much more difficult with Hadley. First, she can’t tell me when she is going to throw up which made things a little messier. She couldn’t tell me what felt bad which made it so much more sad. And I couldn’t explain to her that it was all going to be ok. Plus, the risk of dehydration was a little too real with Hadley. She was having a really rough time keeping anything at all down and I was thisclose to taking her to the ER one day. But she perked up and started keeping things down a little. She lived off pedialyte and toast for 3 days. But like Cady, it lasted 3-4 days and was done. This household has met our quota of stomach viruses for a long time. I feel more experienced after it, but I’m definitely over it.

Hadley has started crawling in the traditional way most of the time. She still does her little goofy Hadley crawl sometimes, but she definitely has the traditional crawl down. She cruises all over the place. I have no indication of how close she is to starting to attempt to walk on her own, but I will be surprised if it happens before her first birthday.

Speaking of her birthday, I am getting so excited about her party. Like Cady’s party, we are going back to Arkansas and having a get together with our friends and family at home. I know it will be so much fun. It will just be something low key with our family and close friends. But we are looking forward to celebrating her sweet little self.

She is such a good little eater. A lot of times she gets to eat what I serve us for dinner. We’ve tried some of the Gerber Graduates stuff. She enjoys them, but she definitely doesn’t enjoy their version of meat. We went to our favorite BBQ place after the Pumpkin patch this weekend and she loved that turkey there. She knows good food when she has it apparently.

She is saying Mama and Dada. Sometimes I think she is referring to us. Sometimes I don’t. I swear she says something I think is Cady. No one else believes me, but she will yell it if she is looking around the house for Cady.
