One Year Ago Today: Cady Goes Bowling
The girls didn’t make it to midnight (THANK GOODNESS!) so we had a New Year’s morning pajama party. One in a tutu (yes, she slept in it) and one in a snazzy tuxedo tee.
Christmas Eve, after our visit with Santa, we ate lunch and then lost our minds and ran some errands. Jason’s birthday is just around the corner and his mom wanted to buy him a birthday gift.
We came home and Jason prepared us a fabulous Christmas Eve dinner. After dinner we had to put out the Reindeer food for Santa’s reindeer.
Then, mostly for the sake of time in the morning, we allowed Cady to open a few presents (I was embarrassed of the stack beneath our tree).
We also let Hadley open some gifts. Can’t you just tell she is so thrilled with her Sophie Giraffe?
After her bath, Cady set out the milk and cookies for Santa. She helped Daddy mix up the dough, roll them out, cut them, and then she and I decorated them.
She had on her special Christmas pj’s and could not wait for Santa to come visit
It took her awhile to get to sleep, but Santa was finally able to visit around 9:30ish.
Christmas morning didn’t start out quite like we hoped/expected. Caesar, our Min Pin, was a little pukey Christmas Eve. This really isn’t totally unusual. Around 3 am I woke up to feed Hadley. I heard a strange noise and we discovered Caesar making a snoring like noise but we were unable to wake him. Jason took him to an emergency vet clinic (thank God for that). Unfortunately, he was pretty far gone and we had to let him go. We are all sad about the loss, but we were really dreading telling Cady. fortunately we didn’t have to deal with the Caesar issue immediately due to all the excitement. She has since asked about him. I will post about all that later.
She slept in until 7, which really shocked us all. She was thrilled with the gift Santa left her and had to get on it first thing.
Then it was time to see what Santa left in the stockings
And then she ripped into the boxes
This one is hilarious. Nana and PawPaw bought her the remote control Big Foot. She always liked visiting it every time we went to Target but it also freaked her out a bit. You can see the uncertainty on her face.
She was a blessed (spoiled?) little girl and got tons of great things. “Santa” also built her a beautiful wooden swingset in the backyard. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t cooperative Christmas day and we were only able to show it to her. She went out and played today and Jason took pics that I will have up soon.
I also wanted to add one of *my* favorite parts of Christmas. I love Christmas cards. I love picking ours out. And I love checking the mail everyday to see who we received one from. I tape them up to the door that leads to the laundry and garage. It is what we did with Christmas cards growing up and I’ve just carried it on. I love being able to look at them whenever I walk through the room. So if you sent us a card it is being proudly displayed here and we love it.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.
Sidenote: Hadley had adorable coordinating pj’s but she slept through Christmas and there was so much going on that I never got a pic of the two of them together. So just imagine Cady’s striped pants with Santa feed and a onesie that said “Santa’s Favorite” in the same lettering. I also *might* make them do a make-up pic before I take my tree down.
Our Christmas Eve started off with a huge treat. Santa made a special trip to visit Cady, Hadley and some of their friends.
Santa heard that Cady’s little sister and Charlotte’s little brother were just a little to small to come visit him at his many mall appearances. He couldn’t let them go without a visit so he could find out what they wanted and so they could get their picture made.
So a little L the Elf set up the visit for all of us. And we are so appreciative that the littlest ones got in on the Christmas festivities.
Cady and Hadley before we left
Even though Cady had such a good Santa experience at school I think she was a little overwhelmed to have him almost to herself. So she took some time to warm up to him.
In the meantime, Hadley was taking it all in
I think she was telling him what she wants
She definitely got on the “Nice” list this year
Cady was still a little timid so we decided to take some family pics with the big guy.
Finally, she felt good enough about the situation to pose with Hadley.
And we got the older kids all together for a group pic. Jaiden, Cady and Charlotte
I am so grateful that we got this opportunity. I know it was really special for Cady. It was also really special for me. I was pretty sad that a sister picture with Santa was just not going to be possible. I couldn’t imagine braving the mall crowds and putting my newborn on a germy Santa’s lap. But to have Santa (who is a friend of a friend) take the time out of his Christmas Eve to do this for us was so wonderful. I am so appreciative.
I will post the remainder of our Christmas Eve and Christmas festivities in another post.
Happy 1 Month Hadley Elizabeth!!
It doesn’t feel like she should be a month old but at the same time I don’t remember what things were like before she was here.
According to Wii Fit Baby Stats (we are super scientific around here) she is nearing 8.5 lbs. My hungry, hungry hippo is packing on those ounces. She is *almost* able to wear 0-3 month close instead of just Newborn sizes. I think she will also be able to move up to size 1 diapers as soon as we go through all our newborn sizes.
She is, as of this week, formula fed. Formula agrees with her so much better than my milk and I was struggling to keep up with her needs. She has hit, what I am assuming, is a growth spurt. She is taking 4-5 ounces every 3-4 hours. She is a growing, hungry girl apparently. I’m a little sad to no longer be nursing just because I know how good it is for her and because it was just so easy for she and I. But at the same time I know formula is perfectly fine and it really does work better for her little tummy. She is a more content baby which makes everyone happy.
She is pretty inconsistent on her sleeping. Some nights she goes 5-6 hours between feedings. Some nights she barely makes it 3. Cady didn’t start sleeping through the night until 6 weeks or so. As much, as a full night’s sleep would be, I’m not counting on it anytime soon. Plus, the couple of nights I get those 6ish hours can really make a huge difference.
She is holding her head up SO great. Cady always had great neck control early on and it seems as if Hadley will be the same way. She seems to really love tummy time, so she is getting tons of practice. She coos a little bit. She loves to watch her big sister and her big sister loves to entertain her.
We sort of hate doing it, but we have been since before she was born. We compare her and Cady on EVERY THING. So why wouldn’t we compare their monthly pictures. Everyone has always said Cady was the spitting image of Jason. I’ve heard a lot more with Hadley that she looks like me. But I think Hadley and Cady look so much alike. So what do y’all think?
We love you Hadley Elizabeth!
