30 Before 30

About 2 weeks ago I turned 28 and A HALF. My half birthday happens to fall on one of my best friend’s actual birthday so I always remember it. So, I am less than 1.5 years from turning 30. For many people I know this is a daunting thought. Something about 30 is big. But I am actually pretty excited about 30. I love where I am in my life. Could certain things be a bit different? Sure. But in the grand scheme, I adore my life and am proud of where Jason and I are. I am excited to finally be taken seriously. I feel like when people find out I am in my 20’s many times my ideas are automatically written off. I feel like this will change once that 3 is the first number of my age.

So, in honor of nearing the big 3-0, I have come up with 30 things I would like to experience/accomplish before I turn 30. None of these things are life changing or overly profound. But they are things that I want to do. Just small things to possibly bring more joy to my life. Most are just extensions of my daily life (cooking/crafting). So here is my list and hopefully over the next 17ish months I can update it and mark some of these things off.

1. Learn how to use my camera in manual mode

2. Learn how to use my sewing machine AND make something using it

3. Learn how to make French macarons

4. Take one picture every day for a year

5. Learn how to decorate cookies

6. Be better about keeping up with long distance friends

7. Make chicken and dumplings completely from scratch (with no help from Jason)

8. Make at least a majority of our holiday gifts

9. Finish the girl’s baby books (aka start one for Hadley)

10. Participate in a race (ideally, run it, but I will take walking if the knee won’t handle running)

11. Blog at least once a week (hey, I’m working on doing it more than just twice a month)

12. Craft/Paint at least once a month

13. Keep up with Cupcake Cooks blog

14. Comment on friend’s blogs (instead of just thinking them in my head)

15. Watch at least 3 classic movies I’ve never seen (Godfather, Scarface, Casablanca etc)

16. Use the saw to cut wood (I have a huge fear of it)

17. Make bread from scratch

18. Make homemade pasta

19. Learn to make my Grandma’s chocolate rolls (and have them taste even remotely as good as hers)

20. Make a pie completely from scratch (including crust)

21. Make my Grandma’s yeast rolls

22. Enjoy a very expensive bottle of wine or champagne

23. Read 5 books I’ve never read from “30 before 30 Book List

24. Go Wine tasting (I’ve never been!)

25. “Pay It Forward” in some way

26. Print pictures of the girls I’ve always wanted to print

27. Organize my recipes

28. Really learn how to properly fold a fitted sheet

29. Take time at least once a week just. for. me.

30. Have a fabulous 30th birthday party

I’m taking requests

I got a request from Melissa to get a video of Cady “reading” her nursery rhymes to Hadley. This little routine is great for me because it keeps one girl from fussing and one girl from getting into stuff. I’ll let you decide which is which.

Well the reading sort of dissolved into a good glimpse of what life is like with these two goofballs. Kind of crazy, pretty stinking funny, and absolutely sweet and adorable. I also love that it shows how sweet these two are with each other. So, this is much less about Cady’s nursery rhymes (although she continues to read the whole book) and more about what these two girls are like.

PS There is a quick spit up scene. Some might have weak stomachs. I actually cut out a big spit up issue (that’s why there are multiple videos). So you have been warned.

4 month check up

Hadley went to the doctor on Tuesday. She is, just like Cady, meeting all milestones right when she is supposed to or before. She is doing just fabulously.

So let’s compare stats

Cady at 4 months:
Height: 25 inches
Weight: 14 lbs 4.5 oz

And Hadley at 4 months:
Height: 26 inches (95th percentile)
Weight: 14 lbs 10 oz (75th percentile)

So she is still bigger than Cady. A lot taller. I told Jason Monday night I thought she would weigh 15 lbs. I was close.

We are still holding off on solids. I just don’t think she is ready yet and she is obviously thriving on formula, so we will stick with that for another month or two.

Nursery Rhymes

Obviously, this is all memorization. But I’m quite impressed with the amount of information her little head contains. And she memorized these by just listening to us read this to her every once and a while.

4 Months

Happy 4 Months Hadley Elizabeth!

Hadley is like a whole new baby this month. She has done a ton of new things all within the last week. Just like her sister, days before turning 4 months old, she started rolling over. I really think Cady was like 3 days shy of 4 months and Hadley was the same. So that is really neat and a little weird all at the same time.

She has also become this smiley baby. Look at her!

In addition to the rolling and the huge amount of smiles, she started laughing out loud. We have had the breathy giggles for a while, but now we are getting these awesome squeaky belly laughs. I’m going to try to get it on camera, but I  have to find something that makes her laugh where I don’t sound like a complete goober.

She is still a pork chop. We go to the Dr early next week so I will have some stats then (someone remind me to post them on the blog). She is wearing mostly 9 month + clothing. She is in size 3 diapers. We are halfway through a box and I’m pretty sure I’m going to buy size 4 for the next pack.

She is eating 6-8 ounces 4 times a day and then her night time bottle is anywhere from 8-12 ounces.

Sleeping. Sleeping is where Cady and Hadley differ the most. We stopped swaddling Hadley this month. We still put her in her sleep sack and we wrap the swaddle part around her, but with her arms out. It was just doing no good. She would start trying to roll over in her sleep, but couldn’t because her arms were pinned to her side. So she would end up scooting all over the bed and the swaddle would end up bunched around her neck and her arms would be free at the bottom and she would wake herself up. Since we have stopped swaddling it has been really hit or miss. MOST of the time she sleeps from 7ish to 3 or 4, eats and then goes back to sleep for a few hours. I would love for that 3 or 4 am feeding to disappear. The last couple of days she has made it to 5 or 6 which makes for a much happier mommy. There were a few nights in there where it was every 2-3 hours. That was no fun. At all.

She is going to start Kindermusik this month, which I am thrilled about. We will be going while Cady is in school, so it will be a good time for just me and Hadley.

Now time for the comparison pics

We love you Hadley Elizabeth!

37 Months

Happy 37 Months Cady Cupcake!

Her first month of being 3! I think 3 is going to be a pretty good year.

She is getting so big. Literally and figuratively. She is wearing 4T in shirts and pants because she is so stinkin’ long. Short and skirts can still be 3T for the most part.

I think we have finally hit the groove on all things potty related. She sleeps through the night with no accidents. We are *almost* completely over the visiting public restrooms just for funsies (I could not be more happy to see this phase go). She does the bathroom thing all on her own. She doesn’t want any help. She is so independent.

Her vocabulary is just out of this world. This past month, Jason and I did have a little worry because all of a sudden she started stuttering. BAD. It was a constant thing. But it has really stopped as suddenly as it began. And I think her speech is improved because of it. She is putting together complex sentences and her vocabulary is just huge. The child I was not sure would stop talking never stops. Pretty appropriate.

The newest skill we are working on is writing letters. She is actually doing really great and many of the letters are quite readable.

Cady is currently the funniest person I know. She cracks me up on a daily basis. She loves to make other people laugh almost as much as she loves to laugh. She has a whole group of imaginary friends. For the most part, I love all of her friends, but sometimes they like to slow us down. LOL

I am looking forward to all the fun to come in this third year!

We love you Cady Cupcake
