She was being dramatic and I was trying to get a video of it but she would stop immediately when I turned the camera on. I swear she knew.
Monthly Archives: January 2011
(Thank you to Becca for taking these and letting me borrow them before the grandparents go through withdrawal)
Last week Cady’s friend Kate invited Cady and Kendall over for some pizza and a playdate.
When we got there Kate’s little sister Ella was still napping upstairs, so Tiffany has some pictures for the girls to paint.
After painting the girls played while we waited for the pizza to arrive
The pizza came and the girls gobbled it up
After lunch we all moved upstairs to the playroom. Cady and Kendall were very entertained by the Busy Ball Popper
Then Kate decided she was going to play Hide and Seek. This is Cady’s new favorite game. Jason and Hadley play it with her all the time. So she was thrilled to be on the hunt with Kendall
Here they are counting. They were hilarious
They found her!
Then Kendall and Cady went to hide. I love how excited Kendall looks in this one.
And the next two I love just because it makes me able to picture what they are going to be like in a few more years.
I love the excitement you can just feel from Kate and Kendall
And this one makes me think about how much fun they are going to have as they get older and how much they are going to get into.
Thank you Kate and Tiffany for having us over!
So maybe this makes me a mean mom, but I did take pictures of Hadley as she ramped up to a good fit. She was waiting for a bottle to warm up so there wasn’t a whole lot I could do that was going to stop this other than feed her. So what else should I do but take pictures?
It starts out with the booboo lip when she realizes I am not feeding her.
Then the actual cry begins because surely I won’t hold out on her with that pitiful face.
“No, really mom, I’m HUNGRY!!!”
And now we have reached the peak.
Happy 2 Months Hadley Elizabeth!
These past two months have flown by. I don’t know why I am surprised because it happened just the same with Cady. Although I do feel like I am doing a much better job this time around of slowing down and just drinking in this baby time. She is at such a sweet stage. She is really starting to interact so much. The little coos and gurgles and ah-goos are just heart melting. I forgot how much I love those little noises that babies make. She loves to sit and talk. She has been a very serious girl though. We got our first smile from her about 2-3 weeks ago. But we have had to work hard for any of them. But just this week she has started handing them out and being the smiley baby like her older sister. I was even able to get a cell phone pic of one.
They are still small, sly grins but the most beautiful sly grin you have ever seen. They are also usually accompanied by a teeny little giggle that I adore. She is also getting really expressive. That was always one of my favorite things about Cady is her faces. Hadley seems to like to make plenty of the too. She has had the boo boo lip down pat since about day 1. I will try to get a video of it soon even though it is so pitiful.
Two months brings a visit to the doctor. We went last Thursday at exactly 8 weeks. Her stats are:
Height: 23 inches (Cady at 2 months: 22.5 inches)
Weight: 11 lbs 1 oz (Cady at 2 months: 10 lbs 10 oz)
So she is moving on up the growth chart like a champ and is a tad bit bigger than Older Sister was at this point. I’m so interested to keep up with this (yes, to compare them).
She is probably growing and gaining like crazy because she eats like a mad woman. Seriously, my girl likes her food. She likes it easy. She likes it fast. And she likes a lot at a time. This child is eating 6-8 oz of formula every 3-4 hours. I keep thinking that she can’t keep this pace, but it has been pretty steady for about three weeks now. She is also eating out of size 2 nipples. For those that don’t know, babies don’t usually start on those until at least 3 months old or later. Not Hadley. She doesn’t like to work for her food.
She is still mostly in 0-3 month clothing. Although her 0-3 pants are looking a little short. Yet, they still are loose on that buddha belly. I’m not going to predict her having the same problem (long long legs, skinny waist) as big sister just yet because… well.. I told you how she eats 😉 She is also in a size 2 diaper. It is Up and Up brand, so they might run a tad small.
I was looking forward to bragging on her sleeping habits. Last week she started sleeping 7-9 hours at a time at night. But this weekend she regressed back to 4-5 hours. So, she is still all over the place with this sleeping business. I know we are still really lucky on the sleep front. And I know she is still very young. But we were VERY spoiled by Cady who started sleeping through the night at 6 weeks and never looked back. I know we will get there someday.
Another big part of the two month visit: SHOTS. I’ve been through this with Cady so many times that I am not really affected by it anymore. I don’t like seeing my kids hurt, but I also know how quickly they get over it. Of course I got a picture of it since I got a picture of Cady’s first shots too.
What a sad baby! Luckily our favorite nurse did them and she is super good and super quick. So quick that she had the shot done and band aid on before I actually took the pic. And just know that as upset she she looks here, she was fine literally seconds afterward. She a tough girl.
And now to compare the 2 month pictures
We love you Hadley Elizabeth!
One Year Ago: Decorating the Christmas Tree
Happy 35 Months Cady Cupcake!
This kid is going to be 3 years old in a month. That seems so old… well for a toddler at least. It feels weird to think about saying something about “my three year old.”
So at 35 months Cady is just so much fun. She definitely has her moments where she tests us BIG TIME, but for the most part she just keeps us laughing.
She is so excited for her birthday. She seriously thinks it is her birthday every. single. morning. when she wakes up. It is hard to convince her otherwise. It really isn’t until late afternoon that she realizes that there isn’t going to be a birthday party that day. LOL. But she also keeps telling us that her birthday is in February.
Speaking of February, she knows all her months (even if she throws an Octember in there sometimes), days of the week (and can most of the time tell you what day it is), FINALLY all her colors. She can name all the letters upper and lower case. She can recognize her name written out. She can count to 20 and backwards from 10. She has pretty much every nursery rhyme I know of memorized and can repeat them (and does constantly).
She loves to color. She sings pretty much all day. She loves to sing. She makes up her own songs now too.She is loving all her new board games and she still adores her puzzles. If I would let her, she would run or hop everywhere.
There was some potty training regression last month. But there was a lot that happened all at once. I think the reality of Hadley really set in. We were finally done with visitors, so it was just the three of us a lot of the time. She was out of school and therefore out of her routine, and Caesar died. That is a lot for a two year old to deal with all at once. But it was only a couple of accidents and she is back on track. Saturday night we even stopped putting her in Pull Ups at night. She had one small accident, but slept the rest of the night (midnight to 7) completely dry. Hopefully, tonight we can make it all the way through. UPDATE: Last night, she stayed completely dry all night and didn’t come get us to use the potty! I’m sure there will still be accidents, but this is quite promising.
The two’s have definitely been a challenge, but there has not been a more fun age. I just can’t wait to see what comes next!
We love you Cady Cupcake!
Last week Cady had PJ day at her school. She was so excited to get to wear her Jama’s to school. We even let her go pick out a brand new pair. Monkey Jama’s it was
Seriously, look at how excited she was
And just one of her unique Cady faces
I’m not talking raindrops on roses or whiskers on kittens. I’m talking baby things.
About 2.5 years ago I posted about what I was loving with Cady. Since then some of those things are still my favorites. Some of those things are definitely NOT my favorites. And there are some things that didn’t exist or I didn’t know about when Cady was little.
So here is my Mom-of-Two-Favorite-Things-Revised list:
First the oldie but goodies:
I am still a huge believer in The Happiest Baby on the Block and swaddling and the “5 S’s.”
Hadley is really turning into a great sleeper and I will tell any and everyone that I give all credit to this book. She has slept in her crib from night #1 and we’ve been really lucky to get some good sleep.
With Cady we used Swaddle Designs Ultimate Receiving blankets.
We used them with Hadley at first and they worked really well. But she recently started fighting us when she was swaddled and we were trying to put her down. It seemed like she wasn’t liking her legs bound up. So I looked into those Halo Sleepsack Swaddle.
It holds her arms down while leaving her legs free to move. She has loved it. Another plus to it is that Jason can do it too. I’m the resident swaddler in the house. So now, Jason can take the 2 am feeding and I don’t have to worry about reswaddling.
Dr. Brown’s are still our bottles of choice.
I really feel like they do keep more air out of the milk and help reduce gas.
With Cady, we kept a bottle of nursery water at room temperature and mixed up a bottle’s worth at a time. But this time around I was introduced to the amazingness of the Dr. Brown’s Formula Pitcher.
This might be my MOST favorite thing of all this time around. We mix up 28 oz of formula at a time (Yes, Hadley goes through that and more in a day). We put it in the fridge and it is all ready to go. Plus, we can pour out odd amounts. Instead of feeding by 2’s we can feed odd sized bottles. This has been awesome because Hadley likes to eat 5 ounces. We aren’t wasting that extra ounce.
Also, since we aren’t shaking the bottles and introducing extra air into the formula I think she spits up less (I know she spits up less than Cady did) and has a little less gas. I am totally in love with my formula pitcher. I really recommend this even if you aren’t using Dr. Brown’s bottles.
Since we keep the formula in the fridge we have invested in the Dr. Brown’s Bottle Warmer
It is another one that wasn’t around when Cady was small. It heats with steam so the bottle and the milk don’t get too hot. And it does it so quickly.
And finally, another new one, the Itzbeen Baby Care Timer.
This was super helpful while I was still nursing. It helped me keep track of which side I last nursed from and how long it had been since she had nursed. Now I still use it to tell how long it has been since she last ate. This way both Jason and I know exactly when she last ate or was last changed. No guessing or estimating. Just look at the timer.
These are the things that are working for us right now. I’m sure this list will expand as Hadley grows, and as it does or as I come across great new things I love, I will update.
One Year Ago Today: Football Game
Ok, so I will admit that I am old. I don’t listen to most of the new music. And when I do, I don’t understand what it is talking about (friends, lets remember that I thought the G6 song was about Pontiacs). So, I don’t really know what “Whip My Hair” means, but it is a catchy little song. Cady thinks so too.
