2010 in Review

2009 was not a stellar year in my book, so I had really high hopes for 2010. While there were some things I wish hadn’t happened, some awesome things (ONE of the greatest things) happened to me this year.

January brought lots of play and fun times with friends.

In February, Cady turned 2.

She was still in Kindermusik at the time

March brought even more fun times with friends, a hair cut, the Rodeo, more Kindermusik and a creepy Bunny 😉

April was bluebonnets, Easter and swimsuit weather. But we had to say an extended goodbye to one of our good friends.

In May, Cady made a big announcement. She had some visitors and got a new playroom. She also had a Stay-Cation while Jason and I took a vacation

June brought pool time, baseball games and her first day of school.

July was a trip back to Arkansas and outside fun, being the best flowergirl ever, and the circus.

August brought good friends back to us. Dance class and Fall school also began.

Daddy built her a beautiful new bookshelf in September. We did some baking and cooking and more dancing.

October was football, pumpkin patches and Halloween

November was all about our biggest blessing of the year: Hadley Elizabeth and becoming a family of four

And finally December brought Christmas and all the things that come with it.

2010 really was a blessed year and we cannot wait to see what 2011 brings to us. We wish you many blessings in the new year!

Christmas 2010

Christmas Eve, after our visit with Santa, we ate lunch and then lost our minds and ran some errands. Jason’s birthday is just around the corner and his mom wanted to buy him a birthday gift.

We came home and Jason prepared us a fabulous Christmas Eve dinner. After dinner we had to put out the Reindeer food for Santa’s reindeer.

Then, mostly for the sake of time in the morning, we allowed Cady to open a few presents (I was embarrassed of the stack beneath our tree).

We also let Hadley open some gifts. Can’t you just tell she is so thrilled with her Sophie Giraffe?

After her bath, Cady set out the milk and cookies for Santa. She helped Daddy mix up the dough, roll them out, cut them, and then she and I decorated them.

She had on her special Christmas pj’s and could not wait for Santa to come visit

It took her awhile to get to sleep, but Santa was finally able to visit around 9:30ish.

Christmas morning didn’t start out quite like we hoped/expected. Caesar, our Min Pin, was a little pukey Christmas Eve. This really isn’t totally unusual. Around 3 am I woke up to feed Hadley. I heard a strange noise and we discovered Caesar making a snoring like noise but we were unable to wake him. Jason took him to an emergency vet clinic (thank God for that). Unfortunately, he was pretty far gone and we had to let him go. We are all sad about the loss, but we were really dreading telling Cady. fortunately we didn’t have to deal with the Caesar issue immediately due to all the excitement. She has since asked about him. I will post about all that later.

She slept in until 7, which really shocked us all. She was thrilled with the gift Santa left her and had to get on it first thing.

Then it was time to see what Santa left in the stockings

And then she ripped into the boxes

This one is hilarious. Nana and PawPaw bought her the remote control Big Foot. She always liked visiting it every time we went to Target but it also freaked her out a bit. You can see the uncertainty on her face.

She was a blessed (spoiled?) little girl and got tons of great things. “Santa” also built her a beautiful wooden swingset in the backyard. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t cooperative Christmas day and we were only able to show it to her. She went out and played today and Jason took pics that I will have up soon.

I also wanted to add one of *my* favorite parts of Christmas. I love Christmas cards. I love picking ours out. And I love checking the mail everyday to see who we received one from. I tape them up to the door that leads to the laundry and garage. It is what we did with Christmas cards growing up and I’ve just carried it on. I love being able to look at them whenever I walk through the room. So if you sent us a card it is being proudly displayed here and we love it.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.

Sidenote: Hadley had adorable coordinating pj’s but she slept through Christmas and there was so much going on that I never got a pic of the two of them together. So just imagine Cady’s striped pants with Santa feed and a onesie that said “Santa’s Favorite” in the same lettering. I also *might* make them do a make-up pic before I take my tree down.

Special Santa Surprise

Our Christmas Eve started off with a huge treat. Santa made a special trip to visit Cady, Hadley and some of their friends.

Santa heard that Cady’s little sister and Charlotte’s little brother were just a little to small to come visit him at his many mall appearances. He couldn’t let them go without a visit so he could find out what they wanted and so they could get their picture made.

So a little L the Elf set up the visit for all of us. And we are so appreciative that the littlest ones got in on the Christmas festivities.

Cady and Hadley before we left

Even though Cady had such a good Santa experience at school I think she was a little overwhelmed to have him almost to herself. So she took some time to warm up to him.

In the meantime, Hadley was taking it all in

I think she was telling him what she wants

She definitely got on the “Nice” list this year

Cady was still a little timid so we decided to take some family pics with the big guy.

Finally, she felt good enough about the situation to pose with Hadley.

And we got the older kids all together for a group pic. Jaiden, Cady and Charlotte

I am so grateful that we got this opportunity. I know it was really special for Cady. It was also really special for me. I was pretty sad that a sister picture with Santa was just not going to be possible. I couldn’t imagine braving the mall crowds and putting my newborn on a germy Santa’s lap. But to have Santa (who is a friend of a friend) take the time out of his Christmas Eve to do this for us was so wonderful. I am so appreciative.

I will post the remainder of our Christmas Eve and Christmas festivities in another post.

Message from Santa

The best Sister-In-Law in the world (who happens to be mine!) posted a link to make a personalized video from Santa. Cady is very into the Santa thing right now so I knew she would love it. I also thought it might be a good idea to take a video of her reaction to it. I have no idea why. And at first I thought I would likely just end up deleting it because it didn’t seem like it was going to be worthwhile. Then I realized she thought she was skyping with Santa instead of just watching a video. I was working so hard behind the camera to not laugh out loud.

And if you want to make your own Santa video for someone here is where you can do it at:  Portable North Pole

Impromtu Photo Shoot

Here’s a confession: I am going to be *that* mom. You know, that mom that is going to match/coordinate her children at every chance possible. I figure I have a small window in which they will be willing, so I am going to take advantage of it while I am able. As soon as I found out Hadley was Hadley and not… whatever we would have named a boy… I started thinking about coordinating Christmas pajamas for her and Cady. Yes, this means I was searching for Christmas pj’s in July. Don’t judge me. It is actually difficult to coordinate toddler and newborn sizes. Everything cute would start at 6 months.

I would love to have coordinating pj’s for the whole family. I won’t name names (*cough*jason*cough*) but someone is a party pooper. So until I can wear him down, I will have to settle with coordinating the girls.

This year I bought not one, but two sets of matching jammies. I couldn’t help myself. The other set is being saved for Christmas Eve/Christmas morning, but I decided to bust this set out this week. I love them so much. And of course, while we had two good moods happening I set up a quick photo shoot.

Hadley was a bit unimpressed.

How about no one look at the camera. Perfect 😉

We were really struggling to find a position in which Hadley was happy and didn’t look like a total rag doll.

This might work

One of these girls is actually asleep and one is playing possum. I will let you decide which one.

And just a couple of big sister by herself

1 Month

Happy 1 Month Hadley Elizabeth!!

It doesn’t feel like she should be a month old but at the same time I don’t remember what things were like before she was here.

According to Wii Fit Baby Stats (we are super scientific around here) she is nearing 8.5 lbs. My hungry, hungry hippo is packing on those ounces. She is *almost* able to wear 0-3 month close instead of just Newborn sizes. I think she will also be able to move up to size 1 diapers as soon as we go through all our newborn sizes.

She is, as of this week, formula fed. Formula agrees with her so much better than my milk and I was struggling to keep up with her needs. She has hit, what I am assuming, is a growth spurt. She is taking 4-5 ounces every 3-4 hours. She is a growing, hungry girl apparently. I’m a little sad to no longer be nursing just because I know how good it is for her and because it was just so easy for she and I. But at the same time I know formula is perfectly fine and it really does work better for her little tummy. She is a more content baby which makes everyone happy.

She is pretty inconsistent on her sleeping. Some nights she goes 5-6 hours between feedings. Some nights she barely makes it 3. Cady didn’t start sleeping through the night until 6 weeks or so. As much, as a full night’s sleep would be, I’m not counting on it anytime soon. Plus, the couple of nights I get those 6ish hours can really make a huge difference.

She is holding her head up SO great. Cady always had great neck control early on and it seems as if Hadley will be the same way. She seems to really love tummy time, so she is getting tons of practice. She coos a little bit. She loves to watch her big sister and her big sister loves to entertain her.

We sort of hate doing it, but we have been since before she was born. We compare her and Cady on EVERY THING. So why wouldn’t we compare their monthly pictures. Everyone has always said Cady was the spitting image of Jason. I’ve heard a lot more with Hadley that she looks like me. But I think Hadley and Cady look so much alike. So what do y’all think?

We love you Hadley Elizabeth!

By popular demand…

a picture of the pink cell ornament was requested by several people. So here it is in all it’s glory

Isn’t it awful?!?!? It is mostly the “Text Me” part that I despise. Who’s genius idea was it to let her pick her own? 😉

34 Months

Happy 34 Months Cady Cupcake!

What a difference a month makes! Our lives have changed BIG TIME in the past month. Hadley arrived and everything is different.

Cady is a fabulous big sister, like I knew she would be. There was a couple of days of adjustment there. She had to figure out her new situation. But we’ve worked it out and things have settled down. We have our new normal and Cady has adjusted like a little champ.

She seems so much bigger and more grown up to me now. She is a huge help. She loves on Hadley so much and just adores her. We ask her if she loves mommy and she says, “No. I love Hadley.” She says Daddy loves Mommy and Mommy loves Daddy. But only she loves Hadley. It is very sweet and makes me so excited to see how close they are going to be as they get older.

She is still her headstrong self though. Every year I get her a new ornament for the Christmas tree. Currently, and for the next 20ish years or so, they will reside on our tree here. When she is an adult and has her own tree, she can take her ornaments and decorate her tree with them. In the past, I have chosen the ornament for her. This year we decided to let her pick out an ornament. I was hoping she would pick a little ballerina or something of the sort. I was prepared for a Disney Princess or Dora and had made peace with having that on my tree for the next couple of decades. I did not expect, however, for her to fall in love with a pink cell phone that says “Text Me” on the screen. She couldn’t be talked out it. I showed her princesses and Dora and anything else other than that cell phone. But she was having none of it. So, I have a pink cell phone ornament on my tree. I absolutely loathe it. But the silver lining is that in several years, I feel that I will be able to embarrass her with the story of the pink cell phone ornament. It is the only thing that is making me ok with it being on my tree. LOL!

2010 has been an unbelievable year. We have been so blessed and this 34 month old has been one of the biggest sources of the joy and blessings we have received.

We love you Cady Cupcake!!!
