How far along? 19 Weeks

Total weight gain/loss: + 5 lbs

How big is baby? the size of a mango

Milestones? Today I saw the dr and had the big anatomy scan ultrasound. Everything looks wonderful. I am measuring to my exact due date. All is well and we couldn’t be more grateful for that. We were able to find out the gender. Drumroll please…….

We are very thrilled and can’t wait for Cady to meet her new BFF. I just know that they are going to be very close. It doesn’t hurt that we have saved all of Cady’s clothes from newborn on. Baby sister has 2 years worth of a wardrobe just waiting on her.

We have a name in mind. Jason is sort of waffling on it, so we aren’t announcing it just yet, but I’m pretty sure its set. I’ll announce when I bring him over to the dark side for good 😉

We actually only have 2 pictures from today’s ultrasound. Even though the news we received was wonderful it was still a pretty disappointing experience overall. This is a day that pretty much every pregnant woman looks forward to from day one of their pregnancy. I likely won’t have another ultrasound this pregnancy, so this was it.

My appointment was scheduled at 2:00. We arrived at 1:50. I wasn’t called back until 3. I felt like things were rushed through because they were obviously running late. I didn’t get any explanation as to what we were looking at as she was measuring different parts of the baby.

I distinctly remember this ultrasound with Cady. The tech pointed out all the body parts and told me what she was doing. I got a cd with 15-20 great images of Cady. Today I got three all together, and they aren’t even that great. One is to show that its a girl but you can’t tell a thing. The other two are straight on of her face. Honestly, I always think it looks kind of creepy. I didn’t get to see a single profile shot. Here are the pictures:

(top of head is to the left. The face is the skeleton looking thing)

(in this one the head is to the right)

I know its not something to complain about too much. All that is important is that our daughter is healthy and thriving, and she is definitely that. It was just a slight disappointment and I’m better now. I did write a letter to the company we get the ultrasounds through to express my disappointment. We plan on paying for a 3d/4d ultrasound in a few weeks (with a different company), so I will hopefully get some better pictures of our sweet girl.

Saturday at the pool

We have made it a weekly thing to head out to the neighborhood pool as a family on Saturday mornings. Its just a fun, easy way to spend some good quality time together. We normally load up Cady’s wagon and walk over since the pool is just a couple of blocks from our house. Jason gave her a popsicle as snack on the way there. It was cracking me up with her big hat and big glasses.

It was really nice that Jason played with Cady in the pool while I got to hang out on the side for a little while and sunbathe. We are still loving her Puddle Jumper floaties. Cady has become quite the little trendsetter with them too. All of her friends have gotten their own pair now. They love being just as independent in the pool, too.

Show Us Your Life: Kid’s Activities

Today on Kelly’s Korner the theme for the weekly “Show Us Your Life” entry is Kids Activities. As a stay at home mom of a toddler I have to try to keep Cady busy all year round, not just the summers. It is definitely one of the toughest parts of the job. Trying to find interesting things for her to do.Its even more difficult when those things need to be done without my involvement, like when I am cooking dinner.

One of my favorite activities to keep Cady busy while I am busy is to set up an art station in the kitchen. I take one of her big sheets of paper and stick it to the fridge with magnets.

I then let her loose with crayons and stickers (I stock up on stickers at the Dollar Store or Target’s Dollar Spot)

It is much more likely to keep her entertained than setting her up in a different room because I am there to give my input and praise her beautiful work.

18 Weeks

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along:
18 weeks

Size of baby: 6.5 oz and 5.5 inches crown to rump. About the size of a bell pepper

Total Weight Gain/Loss: ~ +3 lbs. We don’t own a scale so I’m not sure
Maternity Clothes: Still living in dresses, but I am also still able to fit in my regular jeans. I’m really hoping to not need many actual maternity clothes
Gender: We will hopefully find out next week!
Movement: I’m feeling lots of movement. Just the little pokes and prods. Its definitely my favorite part of pregnancy.

What I miss: Nothing right now.

Sleep: I’ve been sleeping pretty good. I’ve been building my pillow nest. A few mornings I’ve woken up around 3 or 4 and not been able to go back to sleep, but nothing too bad compared to what I know it will be.
Symptoms: Not a whole lot
Cravings: Pickles, salt, vinegar, olives, etc

Best Moment this week: Feeling the movement
What I am looking forward to: Hopefully finding out the gender next week

Father’s Day 2010

For Father’s Day, Cady and I took Jason to a baseball game. Or so we say. Really Jason and I took Cady. He got the ticket and it was really all about her (but when is it not?). We’ve been wanting to take her to a game now that she is more into it, and figured this weejend was as good as any.

The seats Jason got us were pretty good. They were out in right field right at field level, so Cady was able to see everything. They also came with a meal deal. We all got a hot dog, a fountain drink and a bag of chips. Cady was in heaven because the “coke” (Sprite) and the chips are not things she normally gets to have.

She definitely loved on her Daddy while at the game. She had a seat, but spent a lot of time in Daddy’s lap.

But she did a great job. Actually much better than I expected. She watched the game. She cheered “Yay Baseball” and “Yay Choo Choo” (there is a train that runs along the edge of the stadium when a homerun is hit). We even got a “Yay Mommy” and “Yay Daddy”

But she did finally tire out and had to take a baseball break.

She slept all the way back to the car. She woke up as we put her in her carseat and sweetly whispered “Bye Bye baseball” They don’t get any sweeter than that girl!

Water, water everywhere

My sweet friend Tiffany invited several of us over to swim in their pool. Its been so hot here that it was such a nice break from the heat.

I wasn’t sure how Cady would do. She is normally pretty clingy in the water. But I brought her a float. She took a little while to get used to it but after she did she was off. She was a little fish and loved it. She would even get on the edge of the pool and jump in.

Owen gave Kate’s floaties a try

Kate and Rylie just chilling in the shallow part

Owen and Susan

Apparently pool toys pale in comparison to bowls and buckets

Rylie and Cady splashing around

And one of Cady jumping in.

She has currently been napping for over 2 hours and is still going strong, so I think the neighborhood pool will get some visits from us next week.

17 Weeks

Please disregard my pajamas. Jason was home later than normal to take my picture and I just couldn’t hold out anymore. Also, I think my pizza dinner has a bit to do with the size of the belly this week. I do feel like I have gotten bigger, but not that much. And how cute is my co-model?!?!?!

And just another because the little diva is too funny to me. Can’t take a picture without her.

How far along? 17Weeks

Total weight gain/loss: I went to the Dr last week and I have officially only gained 2 lbs

How big is baby? the size of an onion

Milestones? I definitely felt the baby move at 16 weeks 6 days. Since then its been a movement fest in there. Very active little baby

As long as the baby cooperates, we will be finding out the gender in about 2 weeks. I love old wives tales about pregnancy and other things. And there are a ton related to pregnancy and the gender of the baby. So I decided to take a few of them and see how they turn out for this pregnancy.

Heart rate: This is one of the most common. The tale is if the baby’s heart rate is over 140 it is a girl and under 140 it is a boy.

For me it has been in the high 150’s/low 160’s. So that means GIRL

Belly Shape: Carrying high with a big round belly = Girl and Carrying low with belly straight out = Boy

I don’t know that I’m big enough for this one to really ring true. Everything is out in front. I think its a bit higher than I carried with Cady, but Cady was always very low. So I don’t know which one to chalk this one up for. DRAW

Ring Test: This is another that is very popular. A wedding ring is places on a string. If it swings back and forth, it means girl. If it swings in a circle, it means boy.

This one came out to be GIRL. But I recall doing this for Cady as well, and it came out to be boy. So take that as you will

Face Shape: If your face gets fuller and rounder = Girl If your face is long and narrow = Boy. (I’ve also heard that if your nose spreads = boy)

This is another that may be too soon to really “depend” on. Since I’ve only gained a couple of pounds nothing has changed much at all. But my face is naturally long and narrow, so currently I am chalking this up as BOY

Mayan Tale: Apparently there is a Mayan tale that claims that if you add the mother’s age at conception to the year of conception that you can determine the sex of the baby. An even number means girl and an odd number means boy.

I got pregnant this year, 2010, at 27 years old. That comes out to be 2037 which is an odd number. BOY

Cravings: I had never heard this tale before, but apparently some think that if a mother craves sweet then she is having a girl and salty means she is having a boy.

I have been craving pickles and olives and capers and all things salty and vinegar. Interesting enough, I craved sweets with Cady. So this one could turn out to be very true. BOY

Skin Under Left Eye: This is one of the weirder ones (because, you know, they all make so much sense…). The mother is supposed to pull down the skin under her left eye. What she sees in her eye determines what the gender will be. If she sees a “v” or branches in the white of the eye it means it is a girl.

This one made no sense to me at all, but I did it anyway. I had a perfectly white eye. BOY

Legs: If your legs and butt get bigger then you are having a boy. If they stay the same the baby will be a girl.

This one is just dumb to me. Just because I’ve known many people that this has happened to and there is not rhyme or reason to the gender of their baby. Again, I’ve gain just a couple of pounds so my legs and butt are currently the same size. I didn’t gain a lot of weight in that area with Cady either. GIRL

Moodiness: If the mother is more moody during pregnancy she is carrying a girl. If she is less or the same amount then she is carrying a boy.

This one is likely very subjective. My answer and say… Jason’s answer might be very different. LOL! I don’t *think* I’ve been overly moody this pregnancy. At least not anymore than normal. But I really want someone to find the pregnant woman who admits they have been more moody. BOY

Side you rest on: If the mother is more comfortable on her right side she is carrying a girl. Left side means boy.

Since I am officially no longer a stomach sleeper, I can without a doubt say I am much more comfortable on my left side. BOY

Morning Sickness: This is another VERY popular one. If the mother has morning sickness early in the pregnancy it is a girl. If she has little to no sickness it is a boy.

I was very lucky this pregnancy to not be sick very much at all. I had a few days where I felt a bit icky for a few hours, but it was nothing like the 24 hr 12 week sickness I had with Cady. BOY

Out of 11 tales:

3 were GIRL

7 were BOY

1 I considered a DRAW
